XBox Modding

Some picture from me turning my Memory card into a usb pass-through (aka hub) for my XBox controller. This would be useful for Linux on the XBox.

Your standard ps2 to usb adapter. I have like 20 of these laying around. Perfect cheap object to destroy for it's female usb end. Also you might at this point think were is Tom's schematic... Well I did this one on the fly, no net.

To get the actually wiring and usb connector I split the side of it with an Exacto knife.

Once I removed it out I needed to cut the ps2 end off because I have no use for that. Hmm the wires are incased in wax.. what to do, what to do....

Just like you, the first thought in my head was set the wax on fire. Ok, maybe not but after 5 minutes of trying to remove the wax with an Exacto knife I turned to fire. Worked perfectly and I still have the wire ends to connect my wiring too.

Well now I have my usb connector, time to take apart the Xbox Memory card. Now if I was to have used one of those ugly knock off cards I could have saved the memory card. I didn't so it was time to get the Dremel. You can pick these cards up on ebay for 10 bucks a pop, not a big loss.

So I used your standard dremel cut off to cut right about the plastic screw holes on the memory card. The memory chip I just tossed. Man I love break shit.

The only complicated part in the project the wiring scheme. Well if you were to hold the memory card right side up it goes red, white, green, yellow, and black or power, data, data, controller, and ground. We don't need the controller for a usb device so there is no yellow cable. The usb side, looking at it with the plastic piece on the bottom and the wires facing down, is  red, green, white, and black or power, data, data, and ground.

Because of the frailty of my wiring, which because of the well know fact I can't solder, I used hot glue to protect the connections. Even if you are a good at soldering I think this is still a good idea to do. You'll see from the previous picture I twisted my wires together. You will need to do this in order to fit it wiring the memory shell.

In order for you to actually plug anything into the usb connection you will need to Dremel a usb connector size hole in the top of your memory card. I used a tungsten bit for this rather then a router bit. It seems to work better in plastic and give a cleaner cut. Also put a small dab of hot glue under the usb connector part to hold it into place. The bottom half will automatically lock into place because the memory card manufactures made it that way.

Well it's up and running and my camera works fine. I am using the XBCD driver that Redcl0ud has made with your standard usb adapter mod to make the controller work on my computer. Yes, that is the holy Croc cam. The croc comes from Lulu's infamous fishbowl drink. Nothing like a half gallon of vodka.

The finished product. Ohhhh Ahhhh. Yeah that's right I'm slick. So pretty.
