The Pictures And Story...

or something

Classic lunchbox schematic

MY Schematics.

As you can see I didn't stick to these but I always uses these only as reassurance that I can actually fit it inside the box. Had to switch the mobo and the hd places because of the Handle so these are wrong. That box on the left hand side is the power supply.

Aussie Batman Lunchbox

The Untouched Lunchbox

As you can see it's bigger then my head. It's 12X8X3. They don't make them that big in America so I got it imported. I choose Batman because well because Winnie the Pooh isn't my style. Pretty sturdy box, don't see who the hell needs a lunchbox this big but glad they make them anyway.

Flex atx power supply

Power Supply

150 watt power supply. Flex-Atx style. Smaller then super sized fries. This power supply is pretty nice doesn't get too hot. Although I wanted to use custom screws to hold it in and because of the PCB board placement on the inside I couldn't. Oh well.

Mini-itx is 2x the size of Big Red

Via Motherboard

This is the new mini-ITX motherboard. It comes onboard with TV-out, sound, video, C3 800mghz processor and up to 1gig of ram. Takes a standard ATX power supply which is nice. What you'll notice if you look close is no FDD controller. Oh well didn't want floppy anyway. Only twice the size of Big Red basically that is damn sweet.

Laptop hard drive

Hard Drive

As you can see the 2.5 inch 10 gig IBM drive is not even bigger then a Coke can. That wired adapter you see is to go from the standard 44 pin laptop drive to the 40 pin IDE cable. The drive is only 4200 rpm that kind of sucks, but I'm cheap like that. Also you might see me using a lot of name products to show scale, That just so you can marvel at home at the size not because I care about the products in anyway.

Basic mini-itx ports

The Ports

Basically a Quick rundown of the ports from right to left;

PS2(mouse/keyboard), Parallel port, VGA port, S-video, RCA video/ S/p-dif, Network port, USB, Serial, Sound out/in/Mic

Small form factor mobo

Motherboard in Lunchbox

Just a quick pic to show the mother board compared to the lunchbox. As you can see from later pics I changed the way the ports face. This is a pre any dremeling shot.

Test setup in lunchbox

Motherboard & Power Supply in Lunchbox

Once again just checking to make sure everything fits before I get to work.

Dremel outline work

Port Layout

Sure I could have used the back plate that came with the motherboard but that just not good enough for me. So I traced it on some tape and measured where to put that tape on the side. Note remember when you tell yourself to move something 2cm to the right you do it right away because when you wake up in the morning your not going to remember.

Dremel work on the lunchbox

Dremel Work

As you can see most of my back panel dremel work is done. This is after recharging my cordless dremel twice. Ones again I learn a valuable lesson cordless dremels suck.

Still have all my fingers

Finished Side panel

Well I'm done with the back panel.. witch is now a side panel dremeling. As you can see I did an ok job but next one I make will be a lot better. Almost lost my figures 3 times and almost went blind twice. All in a days work.

Mini-itx outside the case

OS load And internal guts

While all that dremeling was happening I was loading the OS, Win Xp. This shows a pretty good shot of the power button I modified from a Compaq Presario. Fun fun I say. Nothing is hotter then a naked computer.

Modded Compaq button

Power Button

Did a little dremel and screw work to put my modified power button into Batman's mouth. I think the placement brings it all together.

So sweet

Front Shot

If you look at the top right you can see the plug for the power. Looks pretty I know your jealous.

Working Lunchbox computer

Open Lunchbox Shot

The Glorious finally completion of my epic quest... to build a computer in a lunchbox. What possed me to do it... who the hell knows but I was possed and now it's finish. sniff sniff... Oh well now to mod my main computer........

Mini-itx Specs shot

Running

I suppose you can zoom to see all the specs but it's probly still to blurry. It's a 800mghz C3 , 256 megs, 10gig hd, Via board. I also through on VNC on it on startup and no error stop and to look for DHCP server so I can plug it in and go with out needing a monitor.

Running with the lunchbox open

Box Running and Open

Well that's about it. Any Questions. If it's can I make you one... well your a modder do it yourself.... or offer me the right price lol. Where did I get the case? Ha I saw "Blow" I know what happens when you give up your source. Could I make then with another cartoon... yes I could. Email me at admin@hardwii.fathertom.net

This page is shitty I know, my dremel work is shitty I know, my grammar is shitty I know. Thanks for the insight.
